RSG Becomes First Saudi Company to Use Only Sustainable Fuels in All Supply Chain Vehicles

Riyadh, 28th Jan, 2024: Red Sea Global (RSG), the multi-project developer behind the world's most ambitious regenerative tourism destinations, The Red Sea and Amaala, has taken another groundbreaking step in its commitment to sustainable transportation by using only low-carbon biofuel in all its delivery trucks. RSG's entire fleet of land vehicles is now powered either by electricity or biofuel, making it the first Saudi company to operate such as an eco-conscious supply chain.

In line with RSG's vision for a greener future, sustainable biofuel powers every truck transporting goods to The Red Sea’s four hotels -- Turtle Bay Hotel, Six Senses Southern Dunes Resort, St. Regis Red Sea Resort, and Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve – as well as to Red Sea International Airport. The shift from regular diesel to biofuel not only slashes carbon emissions, but also extends the engine life of these vehicles, providing both environmental and operational benefits.

The biofuel is produced from used cooking oil sourced within the Kingdom. The type RSG has adopted emits only 0.17kg of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per liter, compared with 2.7kg CO2e per liter from regular diesel.

Red Sea Global currently operates a fleet of six 8-ton refrigerated trucks and three 3.5-ton refrigerated trucks, all of them running on biofuel. The vehicles serve a wide range of facilities and play a vital role in RSG's far-flung supply chain network, ensuring the seamless transportation of goods to all the company’s projects.

To minimize the efficiency of this eco-friendly approach, RSG deploys cutting-edge technologies. Each vehicle is equipped with a chip that measures the amount of biofuel it uses daily. This data enables the fleet’s managers to analyze and optimize fuel consumption, further enhancing the sustainability of RSG's operations and strengthening its environmental stewardship. Because Red Sea Global already uses only 100% solar-sourced electricity to power its electric vehicles, RSG’s land transportation fleet now emits only a minuscule amount of carbon.

This milestone also supports RSG's long-term ambition to transition to green hydrogen throughout its mobility sector.

By 2030, Red Sea Global aims to have between 700 and 800 vehicles in its sustainable vehicle fleet, revolutionizing the way goods are transported in Saudi Arabia and setting a new benchmark for sustainable supply chains.
